The coal burning power industry has not seen a product this groundbreaking since sootblowers were first used.

BOILER CLEANING MEETS AEROSPACE TECHNOLOGY
The SHOCKSystem™ Online Detonation Cleaning system is the next generation of ash removal products. The SHOCKSystem™ is designed to enable the coal burning power generation industry to maintain clean and efficient power plants without the need for cleaning outages. The technology behind the SHOCKSystem™ comes directly out of Pratt & Whitney's work in the aerospace industry, where the application of pulse detonation is being developed as the propulsion system of the future for commercial and military aircraft.

TUBE-FRIENDLY BLAST WAVE REMOVES HARD-T0-REACH DEPOSITS
The concept behind pulse detonation is simple. Inject, mix, contain, ignite and direct the resulting high-pressure blast wave towards the boiler problem area. This high pressure blast wave travels at supersonic speeds and provides the cleaning capabilities of the SHOCKSystem™. The use of blast waves for cleaning is important for two reasons. First, the blast wave does not damage boiler tubes and other structures. Second, the blast wave passes around boiler tubes to clean deposits that are in non-line-of-sight locations. As a result, the SHOCKSystem™ is able to remove deposits such as bridging and platenization not previously removable by traditional sootblowing technologies. This advanced technology allows the SHOCKSystem™ to be located in strategic locations, such as the economizer, air heater, superheater, reheater and precipitator.

THE NUTS AND BOLTS
Composed of three main subsystems, the SHOCKSystem™ creates a blast wave by injecting a combustible mixture of gases into a specifically engineered series of pipe sections called a combustor. Once the combustor is properly filled with the appropriate fuel/oxidizer combination, a spark ignites the mixture creating a detonation. The detonation wave is directed into the boiler by the nozzle. The blast wave created by the detonation breaks the bond between the ash compounds that has accumulated on the boiler tubes. This blast wave cleans in a 3-dimensional manner allowing non-line-of-sight scouring of boiler tubes in a tube bundle.

LIMITATION AND COST OF TRADITIONAL SOOTBLOWER TECHNOLOGY
Traditional sootblower technology has a limited effect on slag and ash removal. Certainly, traditional sootblowers can remove slag and ash deposits, particularly those that are within the line-of-sight of the equipment. Unfortunately, overuse of this equipment can be a significant drain on plant resources and can cause costly tube-leak related boiler outages.

BENEFITS OF SHOCKSYSTEM™ ONLINE DETONATION CLEANING™
A revolutionary improvement over traditional sootblower technology, the SHOCKSystem™ has a large cleaning radius, low impact on valuable plant resources such as steam, air, and power, and removes ash that competing products cannot. The SHOCKSystem™ is designed to operate during normal boiler operations, eliminating plant outages for cleaning purposes and reducing operating costs. The coal burning power industry has not seen a product this groundbreaking since sootblowers were first introduced.
