| The concept behind pulse detonation is simple. Inject, mix, contain, ignite and direct the resulting high-pressure blast wave towards the boiler problem area. This high pressure blast wave travels at supersonic speeds and provides the cleaning capabilities of the SHOCKSystem™. The use of blast waves for cleaning is important for two reasons. First, the blast wave does not damage boiler tubes and other structures. Second, the blast wave passes around boiler tubes to clean deposits that are in non-line-of-sight locations. As a result, the SHOCKSystem™ is able to remove deposits such as bridging and platenization not previously removable by traditional sootblowing technologies. This advanced technology allows the SHOCKSystem™ to be located in strategic locations, such as the economizer, air heater, superheater, reheater and precipitator.
