SHOCK STORY: HORIZONTAL REHEATER DEMONSTRATION
Current Situation:
600+ MW Boiler
Burns a blend of Powder River Basin (PRB) and Bituminous Coal
Has extreme pluggage of the gas lanes in the lower reheater tube assemblies
Pluggage reaches depths between 12 to 24 inches, causing the unit to experience significant outage and reduced capacity
Solution:
Installed a demonstration combustor on the left side wall
Utilized an existing manway opening
Performance:
Removed ash accumulation outside of birdcage
Video confirmed pluggage removed from gas lanes
Bottom-Line Impact:
Removed pluggage in high temperature gas lanes
Showed significant collection of ash on hopper grating
Lead to a proposal
